If you have one and it’s all neat and organized, good for you. But chances are, it’s a total mess. Tops with no bottoms, bottoms with no tops–forget it. That’s why the PlateTopper is genius! It takes whatever plate your leftovers are on and turns it into an airtight food storage container. Currently on Kickstarter, this baby works by simply pressing it over your plates to create a suction seal. You can keep entire meals, leftovers and snacks fresh and ready to serve, just lift the pull-tab to release the suction seal. $20

For six years I worked in retail management and when it came to the holidays, I was rarely around at the same time my family gathered to have dinner. They would try to save me a plate, but it by the time I got to it, the plastic wrap-smushed food had lost a lot of its original appeal. This new Kickstarter project (which goes into production in just a few hours!) would have been a help.

The idea is simple. Plastic wrap and foil are kind of sucky. Likewise, reusable containers don’t always hold an entire meal and they involve the transferring of product from a plate to the container itself. This new creation is a BPA-free lid that suctions to your original dinner plate.

You literally press and it’s sealed up. We’re thinking it would be extra awesome on items that are sensitive to taking on other smells in your refrigerator or giving off said smells. It would also be great for snacks left out on the counter (because if you’re like me you’ve been baking cookies for the last two weeks and a batch never lasts for more than a day).

You just cooked this fantastic meal (or someone cooked it for you) and there are leftovers. What do you do? Cover it in tinfoil or plastic wrap? Yeah, right. Put it in Tupperware? Great idea… but of course you can’t find the right size lid for any of the containers you have. Eventually you relent and either eat the rest of it (which makes you feel like a fattie) or just throw it out (which will piss you off later if you drink some of those beers).

We’ve all been there. The Plate Topper fixes all of that needless waste and infuriating searching. Leave your food on the plate, set this thing on top and push it down. When you want to eat your delicious leftovers, pull up the tab and go to town. Eat your heart out Ron Popeil. $20+

Every FOODBEAST finds him or herself with leftovers from time to time. Ordinarily, that would mean having to put your food into a storage container or mess around with plastic wrap or foil, but who needs that hassle? Just stick a giant hard-top suction cup over your plate and keep your food to be devoured another day.

That’s essentially what the PlateTopper does for you. Just press down the cover over your plate of food to create an air-tight suction over the dish. When you have the hunger pains again, simply lift the pull tab to release the suction to continue your chow down session. In addition to being microwave safe and dishwasher save, the PlateTopper is assembled with absolutely no glue or adhesives.

Any reasonably green minded person, and most people in general, makes an effort to save leftover food. Usually, that means plastic wrap, tin foil, or Tupperware. Each has its downsides; the first two can be hard to deal with, and worse, they’re thrown away after one use. Tupperware does the job, but you can’t put it in the microwave and it’s hard to keep all the containers and lids straight. But now a designer has come up with a product that makes those problems a thing of the past: the PlateTopper, the plastic lid that suctions easily onto any plate in single motion.

The designer is Michael Tseng, and he’s been refining the PlateTopper for several years. Like all good designs, it’s simple and effective. Pick it up by the handle, center it over the food, and press it down. To release it, lift a tab and it comes off easily.

To make things ever better, it’s also dishwasher and microwave safe. PlateToppers fit a wide range of plate sizes and can be stacked on top of one another, saving room in the fridge. However, Tseng needs some start up cash to bring the design to market, so he’s launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $12,000.

Best of all? The PlateTopper is BPA free and built to last, so you’ll only need one or two to keep food fresh for a long time.
